Hundreds of years ago, students preparing for exams in the world’s oldest universities used rosemary to help them study. The smell of rosemary can help us to remember better. So if you want to remember what you learn, rub rosemary onto your fingers and sniff every time you learn something new. Simple!

But if you like taste better than smell, try eating strawberries, raspberries or blueberries every day. There is something in the colour of these berries that boosts memory over time. Other food that can help improve your memory are “the three Gs” – gingko, ginseng and gotu kola.

But if you are not up to trying these food and if you do not like fruit, you can drink a cup of tea instead. Tea seems to help memory too. It is reported that tea has up to 10 times the polyphenols (health-benefiting properties) found in foods like fruits and vegetables! But if drinking tea is not your cuppa, perhaps adding a bit of honey - which is a memory booster - might help!

To complete the brain food list, we must include fish, nuts and seeds. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, nuts and seeds are good for the brain. Try eating fish like salmon, sardines or herring, nuts like almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, cashew or peanuts, and seeds like sunflower, sesame or flax before your exam
